This post came to mind just before i fell asleep yesterday as I have spent the past weeks tidying up my room, and yesterday cleaning stuff. So, I have gathered some tips from my small experiences within the room and thought it'd be useful to share with all especially since New Year is coming!
Tip # 1:
Start SMALL. Decide on the messiest part of your room and think about how it can become neat. E.g. use organising boxes, clear transperant boxes allow you to readily see the stuff you have, but also causes you to see MORE stuff despite them being boxed up.
Tip # 2:
Do not be a collector of everything. Collection of receipts, past art pieces, memory of your primary school should be kept to a minimal. Stick to just ONE type of collection, e.g. Stamps/Autograph books. You don't need 1kg of stuff to remind you of your primary school days. If you HAVE TO, pick the most memorable piece. THROW OUT ALL THINGS THAT HAVE GONE MOULDY/YELLOW/GROWING BACTERIA.
Tip # 3:
Do not keep things you think will be useful. Keep things you USE. If you haven't touched something for the past 5 years, give it away.
Tip # 4:
Do not keep backups of everything. You dun need excessive pens/notebooks etc. These things will dryout/turn yellow. Therefore, have just one active copy of each stationery.
Tip # 5:
Have wet tissue/cloth and dry tissue/cloth by ur side. Preferably use unwanted cloths as these can be thrown away after dusting. You're most likely to discover clutters of dust when Spring cleaning.
Tip # 6:
Start early in the day. You wouldn't want to end up working late into the night having dug all your stuff out and still need to pack them in at 1am.
Tip # 7:
Keep table tops clear. If unable, keep at least HALF the table top clear of stuff. And ensure it is a entire HALF, not bits and pieces that adds up to HALF.
Tip # 8:
Work SMALL. Do not attempt to clean HALF your room in a setting. You never know what discoveries you may make and get distracted by. So clean corners by corners. Best is Tidy 15x15 inches at a time.
Tip # 9: (Courtesy of darling)
have a vision of how you want everything to look like after you are done
:)
Tip # 10:
Try to give your room a THEME. So when you shop for organisers (or anything you want in your room), ensure they stay within the theme. I used PINK for my room. So I put pink felt on all the tops of my cupboards and dressers etc, to give the room a complete feel.
That's abt all for now, feel free to add on!
